Slime Run
Jun Lu, Jihun Park, Eden Zhu, Ms. Chen
The objective of this project is to create a simple 2D platformer with real-time combat that is functional and capable of providing basic entertainment to its players. It is to suit the mechanical capabilities of teenagers and adults. The purpose of this project is to allow students to release stress.
A RAD approach was used to create Slime Run. A rudimentary plan was created with concept sketches and a Gantt chart. Unity Engine and Pixelorama was used to create the game. Eden and Jun were tasked to create sprites and Jihun mainly worked on the Unity project during the implementation phase. The physics and mechanics were established first, then the UI, and then assets were incorporated in. Following the creation of the game, music and sound effects were programmed in and then the project was playtested and debugged.
The project was limited by time; development took up a large amount of time because of a lack of experience. The game is thus rather short and may have some undiscovered bugs due to the lack of resources and playtesters. The game was a sufficient challenge, however, to be entertaining.
Our game could beneficial to the mental health of its users, by providing an entertaining period of gameplay that acts as a distraction from real life struggles. It also improves the reaction speed of its users. Group members learned the importance of communication and the process of game development.
