The “Hope Harbour” project addresses global hunger with a user-friendly Android OS-based platform, providing real-time information on country-wise donation projects related to UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2: Zero Hunger. It aims to build a global network of informed volunteers, fostering awareness and support for sustainable agriculture and hunger eradication by 2030.
The project utilizes Amazon Web Services, leveraging serverless and fully managed cloud services like API Gateway and AWS Lambda, ensuring a cost-effective backend for the Android app. We utilize APIs from the GlobalGiving donation platform to access information on active donation projects and related organizations, and RestCountries APIs for ISO2 code lookup, which is required to use the GlobalGiving APIs. Real-time data from the APIs inform users about active donation projects, allowing them to search, read details, track progress, and contribute through various donation options. Currently, the application provides information on donation options, but directs users to the GlobalGiving website for donations due to PCI DSS guidelines limitations on direct payment gateways.
Hope Harbour successfully provides a transparent solution to global hunger awareness and support. It serves as a practical tool, emphasizing the benefits of global collaboration in addressing hunger and promoting sustainable farming. Hope Harbour stands not just as an app but as a practical tool, bringing people together globally to work towards a hunger-free world by 2030.
