Struggling to find the perfect book? Let’s Findabook
Members include Aesha, Akshaya, Anna, Onella, Sarah, Zoha, Monisha, Siri, Yuvika and Erika, from grades 8-9, supervised by Mr. Chamberlain.
In a world where the popularity of reading is declining due to insufficient interest and the difficulty of finding an entertaining book among millions, the Cybooks team has developed a solution; Findabook, an app capable of reigniting people’s extinguished interest, striving to nurture creativity and enhance knowledge through reading.
Findabook introduces engaging book-themed snippets, BookShorts, uploaded by users, similar to social media. A click on the ‘like’ button of a BookShort will enable the app to generate personalised book recommendations, enabling users to discover books that appeal to their interests. Cybooks implemented the Engineering Design Process, involving identifying, designing, creating, iterating and communicating, to properly plan our project. We brainstormed art-related problems paired with solutions incorporating STEM. After selecting the optimal solution, we drafted traditional sketches, before proceeding to develop a prototype on Studio Code. Cybooks implemented advice from experts in our prototype.
We presented Findabook to peers, receiving positive responses and beliefs that it would succeed. During our research, we discovered that only 17% of 13-year-olds read daily. Limitations involve minimal experience in coding apps, which we overcame.
Initially, Cybooks developed the solution for the FIRST Lego League Challenge as our innovation project, however, we believe that the app has potential to restore the popularity of reading and we hope to see our idea flourish.
Thanks,
Cybooks
